Explore Kanha in morning and evening jeep safari in search of tiger and other wildlife. You will be accompanied with a local English speaking guide who have years of experience in tracking tigers and well aware of tiger’s movements.

You can explore Kanha’s surroundings on a bicycle or foot with plenty of village visits or a walk in the jungle to see beautiful trees, butterflies and birds. A map will be provided at the camp so you can explore the area on your own without any guide. You can also carry packed snacks for family picnic in the jungle.

Day 4 & 5: Cycling in the Maikal Hills

After breakfast bid good bye Kanha and start three days cycling to Bhoramdeo. You will be led by an expert local guide who is well versed with the area. In his company you would be able to meet the locals freely without any hesitation.

Three days and two nights journey of 100 km will take you south from Kanha on Maikal hills of Satpura ranges. You will be riding on flat track with plenty of downhill and some moderate uphill track. These are dirt and cattle track along with some tar road that winds through the beautiful villages and forest.

Maikal hills are covered with tropical moist deciduous forest with Sal tree being the prominent specie. Within these forests you will find villages and hamlets of Baiga and Gond indigenous community.

Pedal along rustic country lanes and forested tracks. Weave through a landscape of verdant rice and yellow mustard, around blue-painted earth huts where smiling children wave happily. Halt for masala chai, wood-fired bites and some village gossip.

Accommodation will be a simple village home stay and/or camp by the edge of the forest. The home stay will be of your guide’s mitaan (a person with whom you make a lifelong commitment to friendship) and his wife, mitaani. Their two enchanting children (and the inevitable trail of friends) might offer to show you round the village, giggling all the way. Feast on traditional Baiga food, perhaps washed down by a glass or two of mahua, the local brew, distilled from the flowers of the mahua tree.

You might also visit Dr Rana in the village. A lovely man, who is very committed to helping those in need and whose wife Basanti will teach you how to make lahsun chila – pancakes made from garlic greens.

Bhoramdeo with its Khajuraho style erotic
carvings and little rows of sati stones.
